In April 2015, PHE transferred existing regional congenital anomaly registers into the organisation as part of its implementation of a national congenital anomaly registration service. The focus then moved to recruiting new registration teams to cover the 51% of births in England without congenital anomaly registration coverage to complete set-up of the new national service. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to be part of the new London and South East congenital anomaly and rare disease registration team. The role will be based at Skipton House in London working on data from the London and South East region (Kent, Surrey and Sussex).
To date, the programme has focused on congenital anomaly registration, but we are now beginning development of the rare disease element of the programme
- expanding collection of datasets to include registration of those rare diseases identified in adulthood. The postholder will need to have, or be prepared to acquire, a detailed working knowledge of congenital anomalies and rare diseases. They will clinically code and validate data from notifiers, processing records and interrogating data from electronic systems. They will raise and follow up queries with data notifiers to ensure that clinical information is complete, liaising with clinical and clerical staff at all levels. They will take responsibility for conducting longer-term data follow up to enhance completeness of records and include more outcome information.
What we are looking for
This is an exciting opportunity to join a new national registration service as it establishes data coverage across England and to be part of its development. We are seeking someone who is highly motivated and will enjoy the challenge of working in a new service, helping to embed new working practices. You will need to demonstrate good IT skills, thoroughness and a strong eye for detail, good written and verbal communication skills, and an interest in patient-led health issues.
The post holder will:
Develop and maintain detailed knowledge and understanding of congenital anomalies and rare diseases, entering data on to the national data management system.
Clinically code and validate data from notifiers, processing paper records and interrogating data from electronic systems.
Cross-check data received for verification and completeness, and match data with other sources.
Raise and follow up queries with notifiers to ensure that clinical information is complete, liaising with clinical and clerical staff at all levels.
Conduct longer-term data follow up to enhance completeness of records and include more outcome information.
Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of data received.
